Dear friends and family,
we are readying to leave tomorrow morning from Braga to go to Valença. We will begin our pilgrimage. Today we visited Bom Jesus church which is on a mountain. The drive up was hairy but I did it. We have seen many beautiful churches and enjoyed the festival of Sao J oao. St. john. parades, people dressed as saints, marching bands, solemnity... wonderful memories. the portuguese are a lovely people. we are having a great time. festval is wild- St. John the Baptist is rocking! most of my pics are on my other device, have to post them
later. One more day. In 26 hours my plane should be taking flight. The weather looks great, 70s in Portugal and Spain. Rereading my blog from the get go, I realize how this trip has changed and developed. Initially I was not planning on doing the Camino Portugues or going to Fatima. I was going for 11 days at first. Now I feel like everything is just as it should be. Eddie and I fly into Madrid, have lunch and then head back to the airport to fly to Lisbon, spend the night, head out to get the car rental, and beginour drive to Fatima. spend a night there, then drive through Portugal to Braga for two nights. Luckily there will be a supermoon AND festival of Saint John the Baptist, how thrilling to experience a cultural event such as this. After this we turn in the car in Porto and head by bus to Valença to begin our walking pilgrimage. About 120 km walk, then we arrive in Santiago de Compostela. ahhhhhh, then a trip to the ocean in Muxia for a night or two. then back to Madrid for a night. And then home! Whirlwind! I am so blessed.
